New Book Recognizes NationsBank for Doing Well While Doing Good
April 10, 1998
NationsBank is the only U.S. bank featured in the just-published "Stone
Soup for the World," a collection of 100 life- changing stories of
kindness and courageous acts of service.
"What 'Stone Soup for the World' illustrates -- and it's definitely been
our experience -- is that incredible things can happen when individuals and
groups find common ground and work together as partners." said Hugh L.
McColl Jr., NationsBank CEO. "That's the surest foundation for
progress."
The book is now available in bookstores throughout the United States and can be
found in the inspiration/gift section of bookstores. Edited by Marianne Larned,
the book is published by Conari Press, publishers of the best-selling
"Random Acts of Kindness" series.
'Stone Soup for the World' inspirational stories primarily feature ordinary
people doing extraordinary things. In addition, there are stories written by or
about the extraordinary lives and works of people such as Nelson Mandela,
Mother Teresa, Wynton Marsalis and his program Teach Jazz, organizations such
as Share Our Strength and Christmas in April, and businesses like Home Depot
and Working Assets.
"Certainly, being included in this collection of such inspirational
stories is wonderful recognition of the NationsBank commitment to community
development and most important, our results," McColl added. "But the
real honor has been in knowing and working with the many unsung heroes within
our company and in our communities who have a vision for a neighborhood and
care enough about making improvements to get involved."
Each "Stone Soup for the World" story demonstrates that the very
problems that seem so large and overwhelming not only have solutions, but are,
in fact, opportunities to recreate a compassionate world to work together,
Larned said.
"NationsBank was included in our chapter on 'Doing Well By Doing Good'
because of its leadership in community development and affordable
housing," Larned said. "Hugh McColl's vision for how business can do
well while doing good sets an example for how Corporate America can improve our
communities."
NationsBank is participating in two special events planned as part of the
"Stone Soup for the World" book launch. On Friday, April 17, Cathy

The following week, on Friday, April 24, Marianne Larned, "Stone Soup for
the World" editor, will join NationsBank volunteers in Dallas, TX as they
