Mr. Cronkite was the honorary chairperson of the Stone Soup Leadership Institute for over a decade. His wisdom and vision of preparing our youth as future leaders in their communities gave rise to this Annual Awards Ceremony. The Award honors people using the power of the media to build an educated and sustainable world.

At our first event, David McCullough’s remarks about how Mr. Cronkite was an anchor – on TV, as a sailor and for our world – resonated with everyone. Last year Rose Styron’s thoughtful speech reminded everyone of Mr. Cronkite’s wonderful spirit.

As Mr. Cronkite’s daughter Kathy said,
Nick Clooney was one of the stars of the huge CBS Memorial event for Dad. I think we all agreed that Nick’s personal, touching and beautifully written tribute far outshone that of any of the other guests’, including the President. He should be a great draw on name value alone, but those who come just for that reason will be in for a great treat.
